How Much Of My Car Donation Will My Charity See?

Posted on Tuesday 26 August 2008

When you deal with a car donation center, it stands to reason that part of the proceeds of the car will go to the car donation center instead of your charity. The fact of the matter is that car donation companies do have a specific amount of expenses related to making all the auto donations arrangements.

A car charity company will not only answer all the questions the auto owner has but they have the expense of arranging for the towing, administrative paperwork such as IRS forms and dealing as a faciliator for the charity.

Net Proceeds vs a Blanket Percentage

Of course you want a large portion of the proceeds from your auto donation to go to your charity directly so choosing a car charity donation center with a low fee structure is a good idea.  Someone established within the industry is very likely to have a good reputation. The number of charities they work with on a regular basis is also a good indication of their worth.

Don’t be fooled by advertisements of some donation centers that list very high percentages. Fees can vary widely throughout the industry depending on many factors such as how much the charity pays for such services and what value added services the donation center actually provides to both the charity and the donator.  Don’t hesitate to ask for a breakdown when you are shopping around for the best possible choice for your auto donations.
