Getting Your Car Donation Ready For Charity

Posted on Friday 12 September 2008

If you’re planning to donate a car, truck, boat, RV, ATV or something else of substantial value to charity, there are many benefits to you and the associated charity.  Here are some things you can do to get ready and make the transaction smooth and easy for your chosen charity as well as for yourself.

Paperwork

Get all your paperwork in order. Get the title / deed, receipts, service records or other information together. You may not have all this info available but having as much info as possible can help you arrange the transfer of ownership quickly and easily.

Prep the Automobile

Clean the vehicle out. Clean out your personal belongings in advance. Don’t forget to check thoroughly under seats and carpets as well as storage areas for any of your belongings. It’s not neccesary to have the vehicle cleaned prior to the donation but it’s a nice gesture if you can do it.

Arrange for a Tow

Arrange for pickup and delivery to your charity. If you need help, there are car charity centers who will pick up your vehicle for free and could provide an appraisal for tax benefits, arrange to transfer ownership, provide you with a tax receipt plus get the donation to your charity of choice.
