Boat Donation: A New Way To Contribute To Charities

Posted on Saturday 17 October 2009

Many people have heard you can donate vehicles to charity, but did you know that it is not simply cars that these organizations are looking for? It’s true. Boat donation is just as welcome and many charities welcome any vehicles they can get.

But not all of them do. It is important when you are looking at the different charities that the one you select says they are interested in receiving vehicles other than cars. This is because some will use the vehicle, some will sell the vehicle and use the money they get, and some will be breaking down the vehicles into parts and reselling those parts for money.

If you do find a charity that is interested in taking your boat, you may want to ask exactly what your role will be in getting the boat to the charity. Will they be sending someone to pick it up, or will you be taking the boat to the charity? This is important since it may change which charity you are donating the vehicle to.

You should be very clear when you are speaking with the charity what kind of boat you have and what condition it is in. This goes hand in hand with different charities using the vehicle in different ways. A charity that plans to use the boat may not be able to use one that will require extensive repairs.

Donating a vehicle such as a boat or luxury vehicle to charity is an amazing gift on your part. Finding new homes for vehicles can make sure that they are being used by someone who needs them. Taking the time to do your research ensures that your donated boat is going to the right home at the right time and is benefitting the largest number of people possible.
