There is news that in some cases, unscrupulous car dealers would often claim that when someone would donate used car components or an entire vehicle, that they were being used to benefit charities when in reality they were being sold for private benefit.

However, that is very rare. There are several different ways that used car donations can benefit a charity. If the vehicle is in running condition, they will often be used as staff vehicles.
