How To Donate A Vehicle Using The Internet

Posted on Wednesday 18 November 2009

If you want to donate cars to charity, the internet can be one of the best tools to help with this. You can use it to find lists of registered charities and even arrange for pickup of the vehicle. Many people say that they would donate a vehicle but they have no way to get that vehicle to the charity of their choice. The pick-up services of internet sites can make this so that it is no longer an issue.

If you look on the Internet, there are a range of car donation websites that are paired up with specific charities. They will ask for information on the car itself such as the make, model and year of the car. The website will also ask you what condition the vehicle is in. It is important to give an accurate assessment of the vehicle’s condition since they may need to make special arrangements to pick up a vehicle that will no longer run.

You can find a list of charities, ranging from health related organizations such as the Kidney Foundation, to church-based charities such as ones which help under privileged children both in the United States and abroad. Many Internet sites will also take vehicles other than cars. They will also accept trucks and vans. If you have a vehicle such as a boat that you want to donate, you may find that not all sites have the capacity to deal with them.

When you are arranging for pick up of your vehicle, you will need to sign over ownership of the car to the charity that will be receiving your donation. This is done by writing the name of the organization that will receive your car in the new owner portion of the ownership papers.

When your vehicle is picked up by the company you are using to facilitate the donation, you will receive a tax receipt that will reflect the value of the donation you have made. This can be used at tax time as a charitable donation.
