Help make a difference and give to those in need - donate a car to a car donation charity. For each vehicle donation contributed, Cars Helping America will offer the best tax benefits.

Q: How is the value of my car determined?
A: The value is dictated by the sale price in two different ways.

If your donated vehicle sells for $500 or less, you, the donor claim your assessment of the "fair market value" up to a total of $500. You write this donation amount on the donation receipt provided.

If your vehicle sells for over $500, you can deduct the full sale price of the vehicle. Within 20 days of the date your vehicle sells, you will receive a written statement showing the full amount your vehicle sold for and the date it sold.

In both cases, we provide you with all the tax documentation you will need to claim your deduction.

Q: What percentage of proceeds will the charity receive?
A: This is an important question, and one you'll want to consider carefully as you compare various donation agents. Because some agents deduct much higher fees than others before arriving at a "net proceeds" figure, the figure from which the donation amount is determined, you can not simply compare donation agents on the "percentage" figure alone. THIS IS A TRAP INTO WHICH MANY CHARITIES AND DONORS FALL, AND A FIGURE THAT APPEARS TO BE DECEPTIVELY HIGH IN SOME CASES.

Consider this: A donation vehicle sells for $1,000. Donation Center A deducts $600 in fees and then pays the charity 70% of net proceeds or $280.
Donation Center B deducts $300 in fees, and then pays the charity 50% of net proceeds, or $350.

AS YOU CAN SEE, THE DONATION CENTER THAT PASSES ON 50% OF NET PROCEEDS ACTUALLY GIVES THE CHARITY MORE MONEY THAN THE AGENT THAT PASSES ON 70% BECAUSE OF A LOWER FEE STRUCTURE.

Cars Helping America has nominal fees associated with each donation vehicle; fees that basically cover fixed costs like towing, auction fees, and minor repairs. We are the company that passes on 50% of a larger amount of net proceeds to our charities.
